myFace and Welcome Baby are pleased to collaborate with hospitals across the nation in providing families with free Newborn Craniofacial Care Kits that contain essential items for the first weeks of their child’s life. In addition to the normal stresses of a newborn, parents of a baby with a craniofacial condition have so much more to navigate, including breathing and feeding issues. We’re here to help take one more worry off the minds of new parents!

These kits are made possible by contributions from generous donors like you. Please consider donating a care kit today!

Further information on care kit contents

Babies born with cleft lip/palate and other craniofacial conditions often cannot generate suction to breast feed or feed from a bottle without a one-way valve. Dr. Brown’s Feeding Systems contain an Infant-Paced Feeding Valve, ensuring that your little one can eat without frustration, so that they can gain and maintain a healthy weight.

Babies with cleft lip/palate and other craniofacial conditions often cannot generate enough suction to keep a typical pacifier in their mouth. The Lovey design is a stuffed animal that allows you to attach either a pacifier or teether, giving it extra weight that helps to hold the pacifier or teether in place, helping to better soothe your baby. The pacifier also features a patented Suction-Free Air Channel, helping to reduce the suction and palatal pressure.

Babies born with a cleft lip/palate have a challenging feeding experience before their corrective surgery takes place. A baby wrap carrier can help to hold your baby upright for an extended period after feeding. This ensures that they keep their milk down, and makes it easier for them to breathe.

Similar to the wrap carrier, the nursing pillow serves two purposes: First, it aids in keeping baby upright while feeding (to help them keep their milk down). And second, it gives your arm a break when you need to put your little one down for a few minutes after feeding.

This swaddle is very helpful in keeping baby’s hands away from their mouth following surgery.

“Jack’s New Smile” was written for brothers and sisters of a new baby with cleft lip/palate. Baby Jack’s experience with cleft lip and palate is recounted through the eyes of his loving older sister. The book is also intended for children born with a cleft to help them learn about themselves. It is meant to provide some answers to questions children may not know how to ask. We hope that by reading this story, your child will know that having a cleft is not scary or bad. The book can also be used as a starting point for a more detailed talk with older children.
