Picture of Phyllida Swift smiling wearing red lipstick, a sleeveless, v-neck, black blouse, and has straight dark brown hair. Her hands are being held together underneath her chin and her elbows are up on a white table.Phyllida Swift is an appearance activist and the CEO of Face Equality International, an NGO campaigning to end the discrimination and indignity experienced by the global facial difference community. After sustaining facial scars in a car accident in 2016, she set out to reshape the negative narratives that dictate the public perception of scars and disfigurements. She worked with Changing Faces UK first as a volunteer, then as Campaigns Officer, before being promoted to Campaigns Manager, where she worked on the I Am Not Your Villain campaign, along with leading a Home Office hate crime campaign and multiple Face Equality Weeks. Her TEDX Talk explores the harms caused by disproportionately poor media representation of facial differences via villains and vulnerable people on screen.
